IBM Ferrari AI Fan Experience Expands With New Race Timeline and Pitstop Game

IBM and Scuderia Ferrari HP are expanding their AI-powered fan experience ahead of the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, with new app features designed to help supporters follow race developments, understand strategic decisions and connect with the team’s global fan community.

The latest additions include a visual Race Timeline, expanded AI-generated Race Summaries, a Pitstop Reaction Game and a new space for fans to share personal stories. The features build on the teams’ wider effort to make the Scuderia Ferrari mobile app a more interactive destination throughout the Formula 1 season.

The update combines artificial intelligence, race data and fan participation, extending the app beyond conventional race updates and results.

IBM Ferrari AI Fan Experience Adds a Visual Race Timeline

The new Race Timeline presents important moments from each session in a scrollable visual format. Fans can follow developments such as pit stops, fastest laps, changing weather conditions and Virtual Safety Car periods as the session unfolds.

By arranging key events into a single timeline, the feature is designed to make race progression easier to follow on a mobile device. Rather than relying only on live commentary or separate updates, users can see how a session develops and identify the moments that may have influenced its outcome.

The feature is particularly relevant in Formula 1, where decisions made within seconds can affect a driver’s position, a team’s strategy and the final result. A clear sequence of events can help fans understand the context behind what happens on track.

IBM Ferrari AI Fan Experience Expands AI Race Summaries

IBM and Scuderia Ferrari HP have also expanded Race Summaries to cover every session, including practice, sprint sessions, qualifying and race day.

AI agents built using IBM watsonx turn complex race data and strategic insights from Scuderia Ferrari HP drivers and the team principal into written narratives within minutes of a session ending. The goal is to make race developments more accessible to fans who want an explanation of the team’s performance, rather than just a list of results.

The summaries can help readers make sense of how a session unfolded and understand the decisions and circumstances behind the outcome. They also provide a way to catch up when fans cannot watch every session live.

The approach illustrates how AI can be used to transform specialist information into content intended for a wider audience. In this case, race data and team insights become a more readable account of the action.

IBM Ferrari AI Fan Experience Introduces a Pitstop Reaction Game

The updated app also adds a Pitstop Reaction Game within its Game Center. Players must select the right tyre as quickly as possible, with scores appearing on a global leaderboard.

The game draws on a familiar element of Formula 1 strategy: choosing tyres and executing a pit stop under intense time pressure. While the app activity is not a substitute for the complexity of an actual team decision, it gives fans an interactive way to engage with one of the sport’s most consequential moments.

The feature joins existing quizzes and predictor leagues, including activities users can play with friends. Together, these elements create opportunities for fans to compete and participate beyond simply following race results.

The addition also reflects a broader shift in sports applications towards repeat engagement, where interactive features encourage users to return throughout a race weekend rather than opening the app only for updates.

IBM Ferrari AI Fan Experience Builds a Tifosi Hub

The latest release extends fan participation beyond games and race information. Fans can now submit six-word stories describing what Scuderia Ferrari means to them, with selected contributions showcased in a new section called the Tifosi Hub.

The hub is intended to highlight the personal experiences and emotional connections that supporters have with the team. It gives fans a dedicated place within the app to share their stories and see how others express their support.

Scuderia Ferrari HP and IBM are positioning the mobile app as a central digital destination for a global community of nearly 400 million Tifosi, the term commonly used for Ferrari supporters.

This community-focused element complements the app’s race data and AI features by placing supporters themselves at the centre of the experience. It also creates a connection that can continue between Grand Prix weekends.

IBM Ferrari AI Fan Experience Builds on Earlier App Growth

IBM is Scuderia Ferrari HP’s Official Fan Engagement and Data Analytics Partner and has worked with the team to evolve its mobile application using AI and data technologies.

The app was relaunched in May 2025. According to the companies’ reported internal measurements, cumulative downloads increased by 35% during the first year following the relaunch. Average Monthly Active Users rose by 36%, while Engaged Sessions increased by 35%.

IBM also said its development work using IBM Bob and IBM Consulting Advantage now deploys more than 70 reusable AI skills and over 30 agents. The company reported a 30% increase in overall productivity for the app’s product development lifecycle, measured during the Monza and Madrid Grands Prix.

These figures are company-reported metrics and reflect the organisations’ own measurements. They indicate the commercial and operational goals behind the partnership: improving fan engagement while making the development and evolution of the digital platform more efficient.

As Formula 1 continues to combine live sport with digital content and interactive communities, the expanded Scuderia Ferrari HP app demonstrates how AI can support both race understanding and fan participation. The latest features bring timelines, automated summaries, games and fan stories into one mobile experience, with further development expected as the season progresses.
